What a Final Grade Calculator Tells You
Learn how current grade, target grade and final-exam weight interact.
The current grade is not the whole course
Before the final, your current grade represents the completed portion of the course.
The final has a weight
A 20% final means 80% of the course grade is already represented by the current-grade component, assuming the gradebook is configured that way.
The calculator solves backward
Instead of asking “what will my grade be?”, the formula asks “what final-exam score would produce the target overall grade?”
Over 100% can be meaningful
A result above 100% shows the target cannot be reached through the final alone under the stated assumptions.
Small errors matter
Entering 30 when the final is actually worth 25% can change the required score significantly, so verify the syllabus weight first.
